Had to see the dentist again today *sigh*

I was chewing on popcorn seeds a few nights ago (and I know that's bad, I just love them so much!) and I felt an excruciating pain in one of my back teeth. Called the dentist ASAP and when I went in today, he confirmed it - I cracked a tooth. DARN IT!!!

Not only that but the tooth that I cracked had had a filling put in at some point and the dentist then had just put the filling over an exposed nerve *headdesk* So it turns out that my tooth has been slowly dying this whole time and that the crack was a God send because it was discovered before something much worse happened. The dentist I saw was my favourite and he had to undo the shoddy work and remould the tooth.

It's just a temporary fix - I need root canal therapy to actually save my tooth and there's no way I'm getting another tooth pulled without fighting for it first so it means we've gotta start saving. RCT is about $800-$1000 and that's assuming I don't get ripped off. My dentist wasn't actually allowed to recommend any other dentists but as I was leaving the room he was mumbling the names of some dentists and the places they work; he really is an amazing guy! :D

For tonight though, half of my face is completely numb and it feels so utterly bizarre. When I had Bell's Palsy after Olivia was born, one side of my face wasn't working but I couldn't feel the paralysis. I can feel the numbness and my face struggling to keep up with movement. Weirdest. Feeling. Ever! :P

OH man, face numbness is wicked weird! When I had surgery on my eyes, they gave me local anesthesia and for weeks afterwards my nose and top lip were partially numb (nose was definitely numb. You try having a cold when you can barely tell your nose is dripping... it's embarrassing to say the least! And I only felt the soreness of tissue burn once the feeling came back into my face and can I say OWWW!?)

Good luck getting the RCT done. Dental work is so freaking expensive, it's not funny.

Glad they caught the problem early though, even if it does mean pain and temporary fixes in the meantime. *hugs* Hope it's all sorted out soon.

Love, hugs and jazz!

Yeah, paralysis sucks! For me it was mostly worry that I was freaking the girls out :/ And I'm glad they caught the problem early enough too! Frustrated that the job wasn't done properly the first time but glad I had a good dentist to catch it now. :D

Ooh that sucks! I've just finished having a root canal done on a rear molar. I had an abscess D: I needed a filling years ago but couldn't afford it then so put it off. This year the pain became too unbearable and I had to bite the bullet - no pun intended ;) - and get it done. I love my dentist and I've been to him since I was 4. I'm his longest serving patient :D Lucky for me I get mates rates but it still cost me a small fortune :/ I think the original quote was $1900 all up and he knocked off like $650 or something? Plus insurance rebate (not that it's much mindyou). Dental is such a rip though and it's BS we can't claim any of it on Medicare. Good luck with your tooth though!

Yeah, mine is the one next to the rear molar :(

And that's a great knock off! I think that it's great that we've got free fillings and tooth extractions and whatnot on the public system but I'd rather have the whole lot available on rebate like with the doctors :/ Or better yet, dentists should charge a reasonable amount in the first place.

OMG :O
You had Bell's Palsy too!!!
I got it because of a severe stress reaction and the whole left side of my face just...drooped for about a month *hugs you tight*
It's still kind of droopy, especially my smile and my left eyelid, but other than that I recovered pretty well from it :O

I shall keep you in my thoughts for quick savings and no problems with finding a good dentist to do the work *more hugs*

Yeah, the doctors didn't notice it at first but it happened so quickly that once I mentioned it, they had to start me on treatment immediately. It's been over a year but if I get really tired or something it does show and it always starts out with my eyelid twitching so I know when it's coming. It's very annoying actually :P

What sort of treatment did they give you? I got nothing, I basically went from the Doctor's office to the Hospital for diagnosis and then sent home to "ride it out" *headdesk*

I can tell when mine is happening because my eye droops and I dribble out the left side of my mouth *LOL* old lady syndrome ;)

Usually it's because I'm really over-tired *hugs*

Cortisone I think. I was still in the hospital when I started noticing it. A few hours after Livvy was born I think. But the docs didn't diagnose me until the next day. Maybe yours wasn't as severe, or they didn't think it was as severe? :/ They scared the crap out of me because they were all panicked and making sure they were still watching me round the clock. I think I had a few days of it but to be honest, that whole week's a little fuzzy :P

*LOL* oh, they were all set to put me in hospital and watch me like a hawk but I was all "No freakin way, let me go home, I am NOT staying here!" ;)

The doc's were all freaked out by me too, I don't think they quite knew what to do with me :D
I'm pretty sure they were glad when I just wanted to go home :)

I'm really glad yours only lasted a few days, I was over it by week two *facepalm*

AHAHAHAHA!!! I wanted to stay until I'd been fixed! :P And it wasn't over after a few days, I just couldn't take any more steroids after that in case I got an addiction :P Had to wait out the rest like you did :P But at least its a good indicator of when we need sleep, huh? Bonus points for those extra few hours I can scam every now and then :P

I'm soooo glad they never gave me steriods! My sister has had no end of problems since she had to get injections in her feet :O

Oh yeah, I'm totally with you on that one, I'm lacking a few hours today and feeling it *collapses* biiiiiig sleep-in tomorrow *snuggles into my nice warm cozy bed* :)
